In order to make the cultural space formed by the countries of Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Italy and Slovenia even more musically connected we are forming International Youth Saxophone Orchestra ADA.
Despite their diverse ethnic identity, the countries are connected by a common cultural heritage, which creates a good basis for a new pedagogical and artistic project that will connect young saxophonists of these countries.
A group of established saxophonists and educators, led by Lev Pupis, brought together ideas and focused their energy on common goals: - To enable young people to create music together and to educate them in chamber and orchestral music making. - To enable socializing between peers, to break down boundaries both on the map and in their heads. - Connect music educators in the region and create a greater common space for action.
The International Youth Saxophone Orchestra ADA, named after the main geographical features (the Alps, the Danube and the Adriatic), is a multi-year pedagogical-artistic project. It will be composed of 37 young musicians between the ages 13 and 18. With the help of mentors and a guest conductor, the orchestra will prepare an attractive and artistically demanding concert program and present it to audiences in all participating countries in a few years time.
The ADA will see the light of day at the Alpsax Summer 2021 International Music Festival, which will take place from July 5th to July 10th 2021 in Kranjska Gora. The orchestra will have its premiere concert on July 10th in Kranjska Gora. Together with the SOS junior orchestra, they will take part in the big gala concert Sax in the City on July 11th 2021 in the hall of the Slovenian Philharmonic in Ljubljana.
The mentors of the ADA Orchestra are:
Lev Pupis, Jovana Joka in Domen Koren – Slovenia
Levente Puskas, Tamas Szitas, Viktor Nagy – Hungary
Massimiliano Girardi – Italy
Tomislav Žužak – Croatia
Hans – Peter Steiner, Diego Garcia – Austria
This year in Kranjska Gora, the orchestra will be prepared by: Domen Koren, Viktor Nagy, Tomislav Žužak and Diego Garcia.
The guest conductor of the first meeting will be prof. Andreas van Zoelen, who comes from the Netherlands, where he teaches saxophone at the University of Music in Tilburg. He is also a member of the famous Rascher Quartet, conductor, composer and arranger.
In addition to the preparations and concert of the ADA orchestra at the Alpsax Summer 2021 festival, a jazz seminar will be held, led by Jure Pukl. The workshop with the youngest saxophonists will be held under the mentorship of Lev Pupis. The festival will be enriched by evening concerts, which will take place at various locations in Kranjska Gora. Also this year, our partner is the Jesenice Music School.
